An optional kiss in Horizon: Forbidden West's DLC, Burning Shores, has unfortunately inspired a lot of frothing homophobia in Metacritic's user reviews section. More casual gamers who have played Forbidden West and are on the fence about buying Burning Shores may glance at the page and base their decision on that user score. While most of you reading this will recognize Burning Shores is a fantastic next chapter in the Horizon series despite the red circle you can currently find on its Metacritic page, the problem is some people don't know that. A 'Metascore' of 100 is a rarity, and only 8 films currently exist that have been honored with this score. ![]() That means if you really have that big of an issue with Aloy, a fictional character in a video game, being gay, you can opt for her not to kiss another woman, because god forbid, right? Metacritic is one of the most popular among these review aggregator sites, and they dont just score movies and TV shows, but video games and music albums too. The fact that two queer characters kiss in a fictional game led some homophobes to review bomb the DLC on Metacritic, dragging its user score from a 5. Metacritic aggregates music, game, tv, and movie reviews from the leading critics. The first is require even more verification for user reviews, be that by phone number, or what Rotten Tomatoes has recently done for movies, providing some sort of verification that you actually purchased a ticket. So, there are two things I think Metacritic can do here. It’s hard to imagine many people liking the series and playing through two full games only to be shocked and appalled when Aloy finally kisses a woman in the DLC. I absolutely do not believe that most if any of these reviewers have actually played Burning Shores, but instead probably saw the two-minute kiss cutscene on Twitter and got mad about it.
